It's good to test things "dry" (without heat) to make sure it behaves as you expect. I'm pretty sure I was still on the stock firmware at that point and it worked fine. Unfortunately the feed did not restart, even though the position and movement did. Simplify3D, Ender 3, Octopi worked after switching to M82 per above… M83 resulted in over-extrusion.
